Sen. Angus King, the Maine Independent, joined Up with Steve Kornacki to discuss the current state of budget negotiations, what Republican House members want in exchange for avoiding a government shutdown, and the coming fight over the debt ceiling.
"They haven't asked for a statue of Ayn Rand on the [Washington] Mall, but that's about it," King said of the GOP's demands.
King also expressed his frustration over the fight over the debt ceiling and the very real threat of a U.S. default, a possibility that could have dire consequences for the economy both domestically and globally. King compared the decision to crash the debt ceiling to refusing to pay a credit card bill after running up expenses, and with that, are “risking the economy on the altar of ideology.”
