One home was destroyed and dozens more damaged this week as the Loma fire scorched the Santa Cruz Mountains in Northern California. Hundreds of homes are facing mandatory evacuations from the fast-moving fire.

Extreme heat, strong winds and a five-year drought have contributed to the intensity of the wildfires that have been ravaging parts of the Western U.S. and Canada over the last year.

Over 2,250 acres of land have been burned by the Loma fire so far, with only 10 percent of the fire contained and hundreds of firefighters working to battle the blaze. Officials believe there are currently at least 10 wildfires raging in California.
