The call: Giving Tuesday

It doesn’t matter how much you give. Or what you give. Only that you give. #Ronation #GivingTuesday

Hey Ronation –

OK, we have all heard of Black Friday. And Cyber Monday. But how about #GivingTuesday?

After all that shopping, it’s a day to think about giving back. Started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y, it’s a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the holiday season; a day when people around the world come together for one common purpose - to celebrate generosity and to give.

Thought leaders in philanthropy, social media and grassroots organizing joined with 92nd Street Y to explore the whole idea, what is working in modern philanthropy and how to expand innovations in charitable giving. The concept gained steam, and other groups joined in including the United Nations FoundationMashable, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of AmericaGroupon, and Unilever among others.

Great idea, right? So, what does this mean in practice? People finding a way for their family, their community, their company to come together on December 2nd to give back. You decide how. And it’s starting to work: charitable giving on #GivingTuesday in 2013 was approximately twice the amount that it was  in 2012!

People are also encouraged to show everyone on their Twitter and Instagram accounts what they are doing with the idea, how they are giving – because it’s also about using the power of the crowd to help redefine the spirit this holiday season. You in?

Just take a pic of how you are giving, upload it on Instagram and/or Twitter, and tag @RonanDaily with #GivingTuesday

We want to amplify the effort. We will create a Storify of all your Tweets and Instagrams on our website – and then share it with you at the end of the week, so you can see how #Ronation gives back.

Come on and join us. Let’s get in there for #GivingTuesday!
