Ellen Grossman

I know this story is all over the place but I’m posting it here anyway because it’s just too refreshing not to want to share it and maybe you spend your time immersed in political news so this is the sort of thing you might otherwise miss. The story is simple enough. Jay Z is taking the subway to the last of his eight shows that opened the new arena in Brooklyn. The lady he sits next to doesn’t recognize him even though he’s obviously a big deal, so she’s asks him who he is.

Then the world realizes that everyone in New York is someone, and the lady is artist Ellen Grossman. In remarking on her sudden fame to her friend Tanzina Vega at the New York Times, Grossman said, “I think the world is in the mood for a sweet, old lady.” Yes.

Want a little extra relevance? She did her undergrad at Cooper Union.
