Wednesday's Mini-Report, 10.14.15

Today’s edition of quick hits.
Today’s edition of quick hits:

* Israel: "Thousands of Israeli soldiers and border police fanned out across major cities and security forces began to erect checkpoints to close off Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem on Wednesday to stem a wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis."

* Iran: "The final step for Iran to start carrying out the nuclear agreement was completed on Wednesday, after an oversight panel ratified the bill passed by Parliament supporting the deal with six world powers."

* VW: "U.S. regulators say they have a lot more questions for Volkswagen, triggered by the company's recent disclosure of additional suspect software in 2016 diesel models that potentially would help exhaust systems run cleaner during government tests."

* Three weeks from tomorrow: "The Congressional Budget Office gave credence Wednesday to the Nov. 5 debt-limit deadline set by the Treasury Department, saying the government will likely not be able to pay all its bills some time in the first half of November."

* New York: "Two teenage brothers were brutally beaten in church -- one fatally -- in an effort by their parents, sister and other members to get them to confess their sins, police said Wednesday in a case involving what neighbors described as an insular congregation that didn't let its children out to play."

* Guns: "Studies show that while most parents and grandparents and friends believe their weapons are safely hidden, children as young as 3 know where to find them and how to use them. We can’t make our children stupider. But we can encourage parents to make sure their guns are secured. Cruel as it may sound to prosecute a parent dealing with the fallout from an accidental shooting, holding adults accountable for failing to lock up their weapons would at the very least create an incentive for them to be less careless."

* What a horrible idea: "Most people who find themselves in front of an out-of-control blaze call their local fire department for help. But a man who couldn't contain a garbage fire he started Tuesday in a field outside of Liberty, Missouri, thought he'd MacGyver the situation by running the fire over with a van full of live ammunition in order to put it out."
