Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* During a Fox News interview this morning, Donald Trump said he has no intention of participating in next week's Republican debate and has already scheduled a separate event for the same time.

* Facing increasingly insurmountable odds, Bernie Sanders' chief strategist told Politico this morning that the campaign hopes to persuade superdelegates to override the results of the Democratic primaries and caucuses. For months, Sanders' supporters denounced such a strategy as undemocratic.

* In yesterday's crowded primary in Ohio's 8th congressional district -- the race to fill former House Speaker John Boehner's vacancy -- far-right businessman Warren Davidson prevailed. Davidson benefited from the Club for Growth's financial support and an endorsement from House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan.

* On MSNBC this morning, Donald Trump was asked who he's speaking with for guidance on foreign policy. "I'm speaking with myself," the Republican frontrunner replied. "I have a very good brain."

* Some of Trump's staffers dislike campaign manager Corey Lewandowski so much, they "planned a coup" against him last month. The behind-the-scenes turmoil doesn't seem to be slowing down the campaign much, though.

* Facing the worst press of his career and a tough re-election challenge, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) turned to one of his favorite venues -- Twitter -- in the hopes of making the case that he's doing real work. If the responses were any indication, the Republican senator wasn't especially persuasive.

* Ben Carson doesn't seem especially enthusiastic about his Trump endorsement. "Is there another scenario that I would have preferred? Yes," Carson said yesterday. "But that scenario isn't available."

* And in Maryland's closely watched Democratic Senate primary, a statewide poll from the Baltimore Sun and the University of Baltimore shows Rep. Donna Edwards leading Rep. Chris Van Hollen, 34% to 28%.
