Wednesday's Campaign Round-Up, 2.28.18

Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* In Arizona yesterday, Republican voters nominated Debbie Lesko to fill the state's congressional vacancy, and she's now the favorite to win the April 24 special general election. Trent Franks, whose resignation created the vacancy, had rallied behind former state Sen. Steve Montenegro, who came in tied for second place.

* Donald Trump endorsed Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) yesterday ahead of his likely primary against Chris McDaniel. That certainly won't hurt Wicker's chances, though as Alabama's Luther Strange can attest, the president's support hardly guarantees victory.

* When Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) considered reversing course on his retirement plans, several White House officials "made it a priority to ensure that the Tennessean ... did not reenter the race."

* Jared Kushner used his position to endorse the president's re-election and praise Trump's new campaign manager. Strictly speaking, that may not have been legal.

* With two weeks remaining before the congressional special election in Pennsylvania's 18th district, Conor Lamb (D) announced this week that his campaign has raised $3.2 million since Jan. 1, which is pretty impressive given that he's running in a very Republican district.

* On a related note, Republicans continue to panic about possibly losing this Pennsylvania race, and the National Republican Congressional Committee just invested another $578,667 in attack ads targeting Conor Lamb.

* In Florida, a Quinnipiac poll released yesterday found incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) with a modest lead over his likely Republican challenger, Gov. Rick Scott (R), 46% to 42%.

* And in Wisconsin, where Kevin Nicholson (R) hopes to take on Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D), not only have Nicholson's parents donated to Baldwin, now his brother has, too.
