Video: The cheap sheep of Pennsylvania

The other day Rachel tweeted a story about Pennsylvania’s Carlisle School District using sheep to mow the grass as an austerity measure. “Nothing says ’21st century global superpower’ like schools turning to sheep because they can’t afford lawnmowers,” Steve Benen wrote.

You could argue, of course, that the Carlisle sheep are also a greener way to keep the grass down. That calculation might take awhile to run. And in any case, the sheep mowers make a perfect symbol for the effects of Governor Tom Corbett’s cuts in eduction.

Local Carolyn Cline stopped to take video of the sheep in what passes for action. “Both of my adult children were anxious to see the video, because they had attended the school in the background.” What time hath wrought.

(We love it when people send stuff. Here’s how.)
