Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina is under fire from the right today, following reports she said something nice about Muslims 14 years ago.

* Campaigning in Iowa the other day, Jeb Bush told reporters, "I'll remind you that my dad in 1980 was probably an asterisk at this point." First, that's not quite true -- H.W. Bush was actually pretty effective as a campaigner with significant support, and he won the Iowa caucuses. Second, it's a terrible point of comparison -- H.W. Bush lost the race for the nomination.

* Rick Perry said this morning that he hopes to be able to pay his campaign staffers eventually. "Have I been able to for the last week? No," he told CNN.

* Mike Huckabee is leaving the U.S. campaign trail today to head to Israel, where his recent Holocaust comments were widely noticed.

* One of Ted Cruz's more mysterious mega-donors has been identified: Ben Nash, the chief executive of PCS Wireless. Up until now, Nash was identified on campaign-finance reports as "V3 231 LLC."

* Still hoping to run for president and re-election to the Senate at the same time, Rand Paul is offering to pay for Kentucky's presidential caucus process himself. The cost is expected to be at least $500,000.

* Next year's elections may seem far off, but the National Republican Congressional Committee is already launching attack ads targeting Reps. Scott Peters (D-Calif.), Brad Ashford (D-Neb.), and Rick Nolan (D-Minn.).

* And former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm is leaving her role with a super PAC backing Hillary Clinton, but she's transitioning to Correct the Record, a separate group created by Clinton ally David Brock.
