Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In case you needed additional proof that Kentucky Republicans are scared to death of Ashley Judd, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R) campaign released its first video of the 2014 campaign season this morning, and it's a three-minute video that continues the GOP's offensive on the actor.

* With Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) retiring after just one term, expect Gov. Dave Heineman (R) to be the leading contender to replace him.

* Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has now raised more than $100,000 by selling water bottles to his supporters after his widely-panned, dry-mouth speech last week.

* Speaking of fundraising, while the House majority party nearly always outraises the minority, that wasn't the case in January -- the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee outraised its Republican counterpart last month by nearly $1.7 million.

* The National Republican Congressional Committee has launched its first ad of the 2014 cycle -- only 20 months early! -- with an attack on Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.).

* Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) realizes Karl Rove's Conservative Victory Project will probably want to get involved in the state's open U.S. Senate race, but the governor has delivered a stern message "[H]e needs to stay out of it."

* On a related note, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, the former Democratic governor of Iowa, has said he will not run in this Senate race, helping clear the way for Rep. Bruce Braley (D).

* Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D) is now "all but certain" to take on Gov. Tom Corbett (R) in Pennsylvania next year, and her aides are circulating a Democratic poll showing her leading the incumbent governor by eight points.

* Fox News personality Scott Brown, a former Republican senator, was asked whether he's considering the 2014 gubernatorial race in Massachusetts. "Of course I'm thinking about it," he said.
