The debt ceiling debacle wasn't the only thing that ended this week. Jennifer Pharr Davis from Asheville, North Carolina, finished her epic trek of the Appalachian Trail and set a new world record doing it! She walked the final 36 miles of her 2,180 mile hike on Sunday.
Pharr Davis has now hiked the Appalachian Trail faster than anyone else on record. She started the on June 15 on Mount Katahdin in Maine and finished exactly 47 days, 13 hours, 31 minutes later in Springer Mountain, Georgia. She said she generally averaged 45 miles a day, but on her penultimate day, she hiked 60 miles.
"It's hard for me to wrap myself around it," she told the Charlotte Observer. "I never thought about the enormity of the 60-mile day. The key for me was taking it one step at a time."
