Obama addresses Akin scandal: ‘Rape is rape’

White House reporters were none too pleased last week about their lack of interaction with President Obama of late, so the president stopped by the briefing room in person this afternoon to field questions for about 20 minutes.

Not surprisingly, there was quite a bit of interest in Todd Akin’s comments on rape.

“Rape is rape,” the president said. “And the idea that we should be parsing, qualifying and slicing what qualifies as rape doesn’t make sense to me and doesn’t make sense to the American people…. What I think these comments do underscore is why we shouldn’t have a bunch of pols, the majority of whom are men, making health-care decisions on behalf of women.”
