North Carolina already prohibits same-sex marriage, but this November, voters there will have a chance to add that discrimination to the state constitution. The amendment up for referendum was pushed to the ballot by Republican State Senator Jim Forrester, a medical doctor who argues that being gay poses a risk to your health.

Today Pam’s House Blend reports that Dr. Forrester has been misrepresenting himself as a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. And the American College of Preventive Medicine is not having it. PHB posts this e-mail from the American College of Preventive Medicine:

The quick answer to your questions is that Dr. Forrester is not, and never has been, a member of ACPM (much less a Fellow, which is our highest designation of membership). However, this is troubling to us, too, that he’s apparently claiming to be a Fellow of ACPM, and we would like to know where Dr. Forrester is making these proclamations so that we can approach him and demand that he cease falsely using ACPM credentials in his campaign or wherever else he’s using it.

For starters, you can still see that credential in the screengrab above – it’s from the senator’s website at about 5:30 p.m.

If you’ve got the time, the senator’s interview with Michael Signorile is also amazing. That’s partly because of Senator Forrester’s answers and non-answers, and partly because Signorile cuts to the real issue with amendments like this – they let the majority vote on a minority’s rights. We’ll have more on the show tonight.
