This is still an unfolding story, and the details are still coming together, but from what we know right now the latest mass shooting occurred earlier today in Oregon.

At least one gunman killed seven to 10 people and injured about 20 others Thursday at a community college in southwest Oregon, state officials told NBC News. A gunman at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg was “down” after police were called to the scene at 10:38 a.m. (1:38 p.m. ET), officials said. Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg said it was treating nine patients, with three more expected. Sacred Heart General Hospital in Eugene, a major trauma center, told NBC News it was expecting three patients by helicopter.

Roseberg is in the southwestern part of Oregon, about 70 miles south of Eugene and 180 miles south of Portland.

This site purports to show all of the school shootings in the United States since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, and by its count, using data that has not yet been confirmed by MSNBC, today's mass shooting is the 142nd school shooting since the Newtown murders. There have been, according to this count, 45 school shootings just this year -- more than one per week.
[Update: President Obama delivered angry remarks from the White House this afternoon, which are worth seeing. I posted the video and transcript.]
Officials have not yet identified any of the victims or the gunman. We'll have much more on this on tonight's show.
