* Panama Papers: "A massive cache of leaked documents detail a shadowy network of banks and law firms that help many of the world's most powerful people -- politicians, criminals, athletes, magnates, celebrities -- hide money in offshore accounts, according to a coalition of investigative reporters."
* Alabama scandal: "Embattled Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley played the God card Monday as he apologized again for the seamy scandal that has upended his administration. 'I've asked God to forgive me because that's the most important thing,' Bentley said while on a tour of the Limestone Correction Facility in Harvest, Ala. 'I want back in His fellowship. And so I asked God to forgive me.'"
* Refugees: "The European Union began offloading its refugee crisis onto its Turkish neighbors Monday, sending back more than 200 migrants in the first stage of a plan to deport thousands that has drawn condemnation from human rights groups."
* The money will be paid out over 16 years: "A federal judge in New Orleans granted final approval Monday to an estimated $20 billion settlement, resolving years of litigation over the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The settlement, first announced in July, includes $5.5 billion in civil Clean Water Act penalties and billions more to cover environmental damage and other claims by the five Gulf states and local governments."
* The crisis is real: "Climate change is expected to exacerbate a host of public health risks for Americans over the next century, the White House concluded in a report released Monday. The study found that, as the Earth warms, it will lead to an increase in air pollution and allergens, which will worsen asthma and other respiratory diseases. Hotter temperatures will lead to more premature deaths during the summer, earlier annual onset of Lyme disease in the eastern U.S. and threaten the safety of food from pathogens and toxins."
* North Carolina: "The Obama administration is considering whether North Carolina's new law on gay and transgender rights makes the state ineligible for billions of dollars in federal aid for schools, highways and housing, officials said Friday."
* Good for Malloy: "Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy was named this year's recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award on Monday, lauded for his public support of the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the United States after the Paris attacks."
