Monday's Campaign Round-Up, 6.9.14

Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In Iowa's U.S. Senate race, most polls for months have shown Rep. Bruce Braley (D) with a modest lead, but a new Loras College poll shows right-wing state Sen. Joni Ernst (R) leading Braley by six, 48% to 42%.

* Massachusetts' gubernatorial race may be getting more interesting, with a new Boston Globe poll showing state Attorney General Martha Coakley (D) leading Charlie Baker (R), but only by five, 37% to 32%. Much of the state remains undecided.

* The gubernatorial race in Maryland is taking shape, with a new Baltimore Sun poll showing Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown as the clear favorite in the Democratic primary, and Larry Hogan leading the pack in the Republican primary.

* A nail-biter in the Golden State: "Democrats have claimed victory in California's 31st District primary, with the party's candidate holding on to a 183-vote lead ahead of the third-place Republican, and more ballots yet to be counted." With the top two Dems poised to face off in the fall, Democrats are now assured of winning the seat.

* The Democratic National Committee over the weekend announced the six finalists to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. In alphabetical order: Birmingham, Cleveland, Columbus, New York, Philadelphia, and Phoenix.

* And New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's (R) scandals apparently haven't hurt the Republican Governors Association's fundraising operation. The RGA, which Christie chairs, has raised $50 million over the last six months, easily breaking the Republican Governors Association's previous record over the same time period.
