Monday's campaign round-up

Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:* In Kentucky, Senate hopeful Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) is going after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) with a tough new ad focusing on the governing shutdown.

* Now that former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass) has established a political action committee in New Hampshire, the Concord Monitor wants to know, "What on earth is Scott Brown doing?" That seems like a good question.

* Virginia's gubernatorial election is a week from tomorrow, and Terry McAuliffe (D) benefitted yesterday from a campaign visit from former President Bill Clinton.

* McAuliffe also got a boost from campaign appearances from Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards, who attended canvass kickoff events in Alexandria, Charlottesville and Richmond.

* Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was in Iowa over the weekend, telling attendees to the Republican Party of Iowa's annual Ronald Reagan fundraising dinner that he knows how best to unite the various factions of the party.

* Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler's (D) gubernatorial campaign has been thrown badly off track following a controversy surrounding underage drinking at a party he helped host.

* Former Vice President Dick Cheney said yesterday Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) was lying when he said the two are old "fishing buddies." Cheney's daughter Liz is running against Enzi in a Republican primary.

* And after losing the Senate special election in New Jersey by double digits, failed candidate Steve Lonegan (R) is blaming the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and the Senate Conservatives Fund for his defeat.
