Watching Meghan McCain last night on the show, I got the feeling that if Republicans could just get over the gay thing, they could carve a significant chunk out of Democrats' progressive base. McCain, who's pushing her new book, Dirty Sexy Politics, reiterated her support for marriage equality -- no matter that her senator father believes otherwise. "I don't know why it is so shocking that you can believe in, you know, small government, conservative beliefs, but think that your gay friends have the right to get married," she said. "And for me, it's just a civil rights issue."She also backs a repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, calling it a national security issue -- again putting herself at odds with Sen. John McCain. "I would love to hear you talk to your dad about it," Rachel Maddow said, "because I think it is possible that right now -- I think it's possible Don't Ask, Don't Tell would be gone right now if your dad was in favor of getting rid of it because he is so influential on these issues.
