Though it appeared that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's health was improving and she was set to resume her duties, there was a complication as part of her recent concussion.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was admitted to a New York City hospital on Sunday after doctors discovered that a blood clot had formed, the State Department said in a statement.Philippe Reines, a deputy assistant secretary, said in the statement that the clot stems from a concussion Clinton sustained several weeks ago.Reines said that Clinton, 65, is being treated with anti-coagulants at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She will be monitored there for the next 48 hours, he said.

Without more information, it's difficult to gauge the seriousness of the clot or what kind of treatments will be required.

I would note, however, that a truly ridiculous number of prominent Republicans -- including a member of Congress, two former Romney aides, and Charles Krauthammer -- and much of the Fox News Channel pushed the line that Clinton never actually suffered a concussion and that her ailments were an elaborate ruse. The conspiracy theory even reached some mainstream news outlets.

Given Clinton's hospitalization, it would appear the folks who advanced this nonsense owe the public an explanation, if not an apology.
