Today’s edition of quick hits:
* Ending the surge: “Nearly two years after President Barack Obama ordered 33,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan to tamp down the escalating Taliban violence, the last of those surge troops have left the country, U.S. officials said Thursday.”
* Violent unrest continues: “Violent crowds furious over an anti-Islamic video made in the United States convulsed Pakistan’s largest cities on Friday, leaving up to 19 people dead and more than 160 injured in a day of government-sanctioned protests.”
* President Obama didn’t say much this week about Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” controversy. As was evident in Virginia today, that’s clearly changing.
