* House Speaker Paul Ryan said yesterday Trump "walked back" his criticisms of U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, which I don't think is true. Ryan added, in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, that he's found Trump to have "a very even-handed temperament" in their personal interactions.

* Though Mitt Romney narrowly won North Carolina four years ago, Democrats believe it will be in play this year, and the Priorities USA super PAC is placing a new ad buy in the Tar Heel state.

* In New Jersey, Hackensack's Republican mayor and deputy mayor have announced they've left the GOP and changed their registration to "independent." Both cited Trump as a motivating factor.

* Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, who briefly ran for the Democratic presidential nomination, announced his support for Clinton yesterday.

* Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) told NBC News yesterday that it's "hard to say" if he will ever endorse Trump.
