Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In Pennsylvania's gubernatorial race, it's no longer a question of whether Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) will take on Gov. Tom Corbett (R), but when. The congresswoman's aides conceded this week she has already begun assembling a staff for her statewide campaign.

* On a related note, a Global Strategy Group poll for EMILY's List found Schwartz leading Corbett in a hypothetical match-up, 50% to 42%.

* Republican leaders in the Senate and House have spent some time this morning condemning Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) over his use of a racial slur.

* With only a few days left before the Republican runoff in South Carolina's congressional special election, Charleston County Councilman Curtis Bostic has begun talking about former Gov. Mark Sanford's scandal-plagued personal life, arguing it might cost the party the seat.

* In the Republican primary in Massachusetts U.S. Senate special election, the candidates participated in a debate last night, but few seemed to care -- the theater holding the event seats nearly 500 people, but was "only partially full" (hat tip to R.M.).

* As we discussed a couple of weeks ago, former Rep. Bob Barr intends to make a congressional comeback in 2014 and formally launched his campaign in Georgia yesterday. Barr will run as a Republican, despite leaving the party in 2008 to run for president as a Libertarian.

* And in Kansas, Sen. Pat Roberts (R) apparently won't face much of a primary next year -- his two most likely GOP challengers have joined Roberts' honorary campaign committee.
