Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
Today's installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* In a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, most Americans oppose Donald Trump's anti-Muslim proposal, but a plurality of Republican voters support it.

* As Rachel noted on the show last night, Trump has picked up an endorsement from the New England Police Benevolent Association, a union that represents police and corrections officers.

* Speaking of endorsements, Hillary Clinton yesterday received official support from the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), which represents 670,000 federal workers.

* At a Marco Rubio campaign event in Michigan this week, state Sen. Kenneth Horn (R) introduced Rubio by saying, "I am so fed up, at this point, with first-term senators." What the Rubio supporter apparently didn't realize is that Rubio is a first-term senator.

* In related news, the Florida senator continues to line up very wealthy backers, with North Carolina Republican mega-donor Art Pope announcing his support this week for Rubio.

* Ben Carson unveiled his health care plan this week, and it's about as bad as you might expect.

* John Kasich's presidential campaign isn't going as well as he'd like, but the Ohio governor insisted this week that he won't be anyone's running mate. "Ain't gonna happen," he told reporters. "Mark my words."

* Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) said this week that "between 5 and 20%" of Muslims "have a desire for a caliphate and to institute that in any way possible," including the use of terrorism. The comments are (a) completely wrong; and (b) unlikely to help her 2016 U.S. Senate campaign.
