This is an odd thing to make a blog post of because really all I have to say is OMG go read this, but I'll at least point out that between the Republican weakheartedness on the Violence Against Women Act and that knuckleheaded remark about some people liking to be in abusive relationships it is relevant, if upsetting, to remind ourselves what we're talking about.
The background story is amazing in itself: Photojournalist Sara Naomi Lewkowicz set out to document the difficult transition to normal life for an ex-convict newly released from prison. In the course of working on the project Lewkowicz finds herself witnessing (and photographing) her subject assaulting his girlfriend in a fit of rage. It's a sobering series to flip through and see the whole thing develop and resolve, and a bracing reminder of the reality of the issue (and its attendant challenges).
