Six women were selected Thursday to serve on the jury that will decide George Zimmerman’s guilt or innocence in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The prosecution stated in court that five of the women are white, describing the sixth as “black or Hispanic.”

Trayvon Martin’s family lawyer joined PoliticsNation Thursday to share the family’s reaction to the news.

“[Trayvon Martin’s parents] are putting their faith in the justice system and they pray that it doesn’t fail them. They only ask for equal justice for their child,” said Benjamin Crump.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, saying he shot Martin in self-defense on February 26, 2012.

The trial is scheduled to begin with opening statements this coming Monday morning.

Note: George Zimmerman has sued NBCUniversal for defamation. The company has strongly denied his allegations.
