With one week to go, Newt Gingrich is out with his first email directly attacking rival Mitt Romney. Gingrich Communications Director Joe DeSantis writes in the email:"Can we trust a Massachusetts Moderate to enact a conservative agenda? Our campaign might have plenty of things to say about that, but the best response certainly comes from Mitt Romney himself: 'I think people recognize that I am not a partisan Republican. read more

Here's Mitt Romney just being Mitt: filling the tank, talking cars. Basically, retail politicking. He stopped at an iconic Lowe's store in northern New HampshireOur reporter on the scene said Romney had a little trouble with the gas pump -- nothing too awkward, just the first pump he tried to use wasn't really working -- so he grabbed another, and joked about how he'd freeze to the side of the bus before they got the tank filled.Romney also stepped inside and talked cars with some locals. read more

Who knew his family were fans of the Wii!Letting Republicans in the House and the Senate sweat it out over the payroll tax cut standoff, President Obama brought the issue to the people, yesterday asking Americans what $40 means to them. And today, he's expected to meet with some of these people personally. Last night, Obama tweeted:"Everyone should see what #40dollars means to folks: groceries, daycare, gas, copays. Keep it going. read more

"We wonder if they might end up re-electing the President before the 2012 campaign even begins in earnest."That's from the WSJ Editorial this morning, slamming Republicans on the Hill for pretty much giving up the 2012 presidential election before the year has even started. Washington doesn't get any more heated than this. But as far as Obama goes, could the paper be right? All of this infighting has seemed to move the needle in his favor: two polls out this week show his approval ratings rising to the upper 40s, their highest level since the summer. read more

160 million. That's the number of Americans facing a tax hike - which will likely kick in starting January 1. Thanks to Congress doing absolutely nothing yesterday, there looks to be little chance that the House and the Senate will come to a deal. And when that ball drops on December 31st at 11:59 PM - most of us can expect to see about $40 less in our weekly take home pay.The White House sent out an email and put out a Tweet, asking what $40 means to you? Gas in your car, lunch with friends, gifts for your kids? read more
