More than a hundred tornadoes ripped through the Plains States this weekend. The temperature hit a record 87 degrees in Boston yesterday. And last month was the warmest March on record in the contiguous United States.  Yet, there’s barely any mention of climate change.  Rising gas prices and Republican calls for more drilling have pushed the conversation to oil and how to make it cheaper. But after digging through our video archives, we found that it wasn’t always this way. read more

Happy Equal Pay Day! Or, rather...unequal pay day.The National Committee on Pay Equity is celebrating Equal Pay Day on April 17 to symbolize how many days into 2012 women must work to earn what men earned in 2011. According to the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor, women who work full-time earn about 77 cents for every dollar men who work full-time earn.A new study released by the American Association of University Women shows that the wage gap varies from state to state, with Washington D.C. read more

All even in April

All even in April

Gallup released its first general election tracking poll for this year, and with it, dusted off some data from the vault. The poll found President Obama and Mitt Romney in a statistical tie, with Romney at 47% and Obama at 45%. If you look back at where prior incumbents stood at the kick-off of the general, you'll see an interesting trend: Presidents Carter, Clinton and Bush 41 and 43 all led their opponents in April of their fourth year in office.Only two of these four ended up winning reelection, so it's not an indicator of success. read more

Remember in November

04/17/12 08:23AM

Recently, some Democrats have backtracked on the phrase “war on women.” They shouldn’t. This is not the time to make a political calculation about terminology out of concern some voters view the word “war” as too harsh. Those same voters respect honesty and conviction. (I’d also point out that when Howard Dean first used the term “culture of corruption” to describe the Tom Delay-Jack Abramoff-K Street-Bush administration connection, some initially said it was too harsh.) Read more at The Hill. read more
