Two days ahead of Sunday’s Academy Awards, master thespian and host of Inside the Actors Studio, James Lipton, joined the NOW panel to deliver his top Oscar picks and discuss the controversy behind many of the nominees this year for best picture.

Lipton weighed in on Kathryn Bigelow’s film Zero Dark Thirty and the debate over its depiction of torture. Although critics and politicians have scrutinized the film, Lipton begs the important question: “Is the relationship between art and politics such that a film can be dismissed, or work of art can be dismissed, because we don’t like the subject?”
