On Offense on Immigration

Today President Obama defended the immigration policy he announced Friday, penning an opinion piece in Time. His administration's new policy halts the deportation of young illegal immigrants who were brought to America before 16 years of age, and are in good standing in school and have a clean criminal record.

The op-ed argues the initiative is nothing new, but it's facing fresh partisan opposition. The President writes the policy he's supporting was the impetus for the proposed DREAM Act, and that "The bill hasn’t really changed since Republicans co-wrote it. ... The only thing that has changed, apparently, is the politics." GOP obstruction is a recurring theme in the President's campaign, and echoes his address over the weekend in which he scolded Congressional Republicans for "refusing to life a finger" on ideas that would create jobs.
