NOW Today: Foreign policy, now front and center

Foreign policy is front and center.

This morning, we awoke to news that three people were killed in Israel after a rocket attack was launched from Gaza. It comes after we learned that Israelis had killed a top military commander of Hamas in an air strike Wednesday. The rocket fire has put the two sides in a tense situation that makes the already tenuous situation in the Middle East far more volatile.

Then of course there is the situation in Benghazi, which will be the subject of Fmr. CIA Director David Petraeus’ testimony in a closed door House intelligence committee hearing Friday. The administration’s response to Benghazi has drawn the ire of Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), who along with other Republican colleagues is calling for the formation of a select committee probing the attack on Libya. That prompted President Obama to weigh in at his press conference yesterday, saying that GOP criticism of U.N. Ambassador (and potential Secretary of State nominee) Susan Rice is “outrageous,” adding that if anyone wants “to go after somebody they should go after me.”

On Wednesday we talked about all the shuffling - both anticipated and unexpected - that is going on inside the President’s national security team. Today Fmr. New Mexico Governor and U.N. Ambassador Bill Richardson weighs in on the changes, the stakes, and the ever-changing narrative of America’s dynamic foreign policy. We’ll see you at noon ET on NOW.
