Let the (early) voting begin

There are currently 57 days until election day, but that doesn't mean voters haven't already started casting ballots. Early voting has already begun in North Carolina and will start in five other key swing states before the end of September.

According to a report by George Mason University, early voting skyrocketed in the 2008 election, up from 20% to 30% of the total votes cast from 2004. In 1992, just 7% of total votes were cast early. For each campaign, that means the battle is already underway, and whatever is happening right now, could be influencing someone who is about to head to the polls or mail in an absentee ballot in a crucial swing state.
