How does he do it? Ron Paul facing a barrage of criticism from his rivals for his stance on Iran, Iraq, 9/11, Israel... How is he still commanding such a huge lead in Iowa?? Not to mention racial and anti-Semitic statements in newsletters published under his name...

When Herman Cain had his spotlight, the rivals went after him. And it worked, knocking him off the pedestal. In the case of Ron Paul, they're trying. But the Texas Congressman is no pizza executive.. -- he's a seasoned politician with 30 years of experience. And this time around, his M.O.? Silence. Silence from the candidate. And silence that he is insisting from his volunteers. No Tweeting.

Much of their efforts have been cloaked in secrecy: They said that once they arrive at the camp they are under orders not to speak to journalists or make postings on social media sites about their activities in Iowa, a provocative limitation for a movement lubricated by the effective use of the Internet.

Which brings us to Ron Paul's latest ad. As the hits keep coming, he's maintaining his position as the only candidate who can stand up to the “Washington machine.” The ad takes those unorthodox foreign policy views, and spins Paul as a lone man of principle in a field of compromising politicians.

But as a WSJ Op-Ed article points out, it's a Ron Paul surge because of Ron Paul. "It's in fact the Republican Party protest vote."
