Hamas flexes its muscles in the Middle East

Updated

On the show today, Alex talked about a New York Times article that reports Hamas is trying to “exploit its increased political clout with its ideological allies in Egypt’s new Islamist-led government.”

The article references a March interview with a senior Hamas official, Moussa Abu Marzouk, who said at the time that if another conflict were to break out between Hamas and Israel, “[t]he position of all Islamists in the region will be that of Hamas, not the other way around.”

With major Middle East players lining up behind Gaza, most notably Egypt, Mr. Abu Marzouk’s comment may prove prescient.

For more on the unfolding conflict and the possibility of a ceasefire, watch Alex’s discussion with the panel and Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting live from Gaza.
