Firefighter flip-flop?

Updated

Mitt Romney was in the hot seat today for a comment he made Friday, that the message out of the Wisconsin recall election was that Americans didn’t want bigger government, including more “firemen, policemen, and more teachers.” Speaking from Council Bluffs, Iowa, he went on to say, “It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.” This morning Romney appeared to distance himself from that position. Asked if he wanted to cut firemen and teachers, Romney said, “the federal gov’t doesn’t pay for teachers, firefighters or policemen, so obviously that’s completely absurd.” Take a listen to the two comments below:

NBC asked Romney after his event in Orlando today if his Friday remarks had been taken out of context. He replied, “Oh, I’m not going to talk about that.”

What do you think, did Romney change his position or were his comments misinterpreted?
