Just this past election cycle, GOP Presidential candidates championed immigration policy ideas such as “self-deportation”, the construction of a border fence that is “20 feet high…electrified” and a moat filled with “alligators.”
Now House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is supporting a path to citizenship for children brought into the United States illegally. Republicans have come a long way since their 2012 drubbing among Latino voters.
Keep in mind that little more than two years ago, Cantor opposed the DREAM Act. On Tuesday, Cantor told the American Enterprise Institute, “One of the great founding principles of our country was that children would not be punished for the mistakes of their parents. It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home.”
Watch Alex Wagner, NBC’s Luke Russert and the NOW panel discuss the Republican about-face on immigration, along with some vintage Herman Cain sound.
