Actors pledge to make pizzas for gay weddings

Do you live in Indiana and want to serve pizza at your gay wedding? You’re in luck, because actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison, former co-stars on the hit sitcom “Scrubs,” will make it for you. At least that’s what they promised on social media.

Memories Pizza, an Indiana pizzeria, made headlines last week when one of the owners of the shop said that while they would serve gay customers in their store, they would not cater a gay wedding. The comments were made in the wake of Indiana’s controversial religious freedom legislation being signed into law. Critics of the law warned that the legislation would sanction discrimination against gays and lesbians. After a wave of criticism, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a “fix” to the law Thursday.

The pizzeria owners said they were temporarily forced to shut down after receiving intense criticism over the comments. Some web-savvy critics took to Yelp to flood the shop’s page with negative reviews. But Memories Pizza also got a big show of support; a GoFundMe page for the pizzeria raised a staggering $842,442 in just three days.

Braff and Faison aren’t the only ones pledging to provide pizza for LGBT couples in response to the spate of legislation similar to Indiana’s popping up in other states. Cyndi Lauper launched #Pizza4Equality to help raise money to support homeless LGBT youth.
