In the midst of the Rep. Akin controversy that has brought the phrase "GOP War on Women" roaring back, the Democratic National Convention Committee revealed a new list of speakers for its September convention, all of which are high-profile women.
While two on the list are elected officials - Rep. Tammy Baldwin and Sen. Barbara Mikulski - several are women rights and health activists, including Lilly Ledbetter (for whom the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act is named); Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America; Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and Sandra Fluke, who stood up for Obama administration's health care law's contraception coverage mandate in the face of Republican protest.
"They're not missing this chance," Politico's Mike Allen noted of the DNCC on Morning Joe Wednesday. "A clear message here coming from the Democratic National Committee."
Caroline Kennedy; actress Eva Longoria, an Obama campaign co-chair; veteran Tammy Duckworth, the former assistant secretary for the Dept. of veterans Affairs who is sparring with Rep. Joe Walsh in Indiana for his congressional seat; and Denise Juneau, state superintendent of public instruction in Montana.
