Funnyman Will Ferrell is stepping up to bat in the fight against cancer. The actor best known for his hilarious roles on “Saturday Night Live” and as Ron Burgundy in “Anchorman” kicked off an epic day of baseball Thursday in an effort to play each position on the field.

The scheme will be filmed in a “Funny or Die” special dedicated to cancer charities, according to Major League Baseball. Ferrell is honoring the Bert Campaneris who, according to NBC Sports, once played every position on the field in one game.

“Spring Training affords an appropriate setting where our game can serve as the backdrop for an event that will benefit organizations that fight cancer,” MLB commissioner Robert Manfred said in a statement. “Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball — among our clubs, players and our millions of fans — are big fans of his. Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause.”

Ferrell was scheduled to play at give different stadiums Thursday. Here are some fun photos from the big day.
