The National Weather Service has placed New York City and the surrounding area under a blizzard warning ahead of a “crippling and potentially historic storm” that is bearing down on the nation’s largest metropolitan area. The blizzard warning is in effect until 12 a.m. Wednesday, and up to 24 inches of snow is expected.

So, what do you know about snow? Did you know that a storm must meet specific qualifications in order to be deemed a blizzard? Did you know that some of the biggest snowfalls in U.S. history weren’t technically blizzards?
