Germany’s defeat of the World Cup host country’s team stunned soccer viewers and devastated Brazilians worldwide. Brazil and the Netherlands will face off on Saturday to determine the third-place winner of the month-long tournament, with the ultimate winner – Argentina or Germany – to be decided on Sunday.
Spaniards, meanwhile, kicked off the festival of San Fermín in Pamplona, Spain, the seven-day celebration that is best known for the ritual running of the bulls, while in the north of the country, in Sabucedo, hundreds of wild horses were rounded up. Berlin and Paris celebrated fashion week, while Japan was hit by a typhoon.
But the heaviest news came out of the Middle East this week, as fighting between Israel and Palestine escalated after the death of three Israeli boys who were killed in the West Bank and whose bodies were found last week.
