This Week in Pictures: April 12-April 18


This week was marked by the tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry off the coast of South Korea, carrying 476 passengers, many of them high school students. As of this morning, 29 victims had been found, with hundreds still missing. Disaster also struck on the world’s highest peak, where an avalanche killed 12 sherpas as of Friday morning on Mt. Everest.

Holy Week was celebrated around the world, as Jews celebrate Passover. A massive fire tore through Valparaiso, Chile, destroying more than 100 houses, while a tense standoff in Ukraine with Russia continued in the eastern part of the country, as skirmishes threatened to escalate into civil war.
