War of words escalates between Floyd Mayweather and Ronda Rousey

The war of words between female UFC star Ronda Rousey and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather just escalated again.

On Tuesday, Rousey reacted in an interview with TMZ Sports to a recent dig from Mayweather about her earning power. “[Floyd] said ‘You make $300 million a night, then you can give me a call’ … and I actually did the math and given the numbers of my last fight, I’m actually the highest paid UFC fighter and I’m a woman,” she told the gossip website. ”I think I actually make 2-3 times more than he does per second … so when he learns to read and write, he can text me.” She went on to say she’s “more efficient” than the boxing icon.

Mayweather struck back on Wednesday, telling TMZ: ”Last time I checked I was #1 on Forbes. She will never be at my status. Keep trying to get publicity.”

Their feud began back in July, when Rousey made a reference to Mayweather’s controversial history of domestic abuse during a red carpet interview at the ESPYs. The popular UFC star, who also has an undefeated record, took home the Best Fighter award over Mayweather that night.

Mayweather has pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges on several occasions, the most recent of which in 2012 landed him in prison for two months. And he is currently being sued by a former fiancee who alleges he was both verbally and physically abusive toward her. Mayweather has been widely criticized for refusing to express any remorse publicly for his actions and that may have cost him dearly with potential endorsement deals.

“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” Rousey quipped at the time. “I’d like to see you pretend to not know who I am now.” Mayweather had previously professed ignorance about who “he” was.

Even the UFC waded into the squabble, posted a video mocking Mayweather on social media:

Rousey, who has acknowledged that Mayweather “is one of the best boxers of all time” and that he would “definitely beat me in a boxing match,” has maintained that she could defeat the polarizing champion if there were “no rules.”
