Sochi latest: Team USA sweeps men’s slopestyle skiing event

FIRST AMERICAN PODIUM SWEEP OF 2014 GAMES: Team USA got a bump to its medal count, thanks to a three-way sweep in the men’s freeski slopestyle; Joss Christensen won the gold, Gus Kenworthy got the silver medal and Nick Goepper finished in third place for the bronze. This is first podium sweep for the USA at Sochi, and the third sweep for the team in the Winter Olympic Games history.

RUSSIAN FIGURE SKATER WITHDRAWS FROM COMPETITION: In a dramatic exit, legendary figure skater Yevgeny Plushenko withdrew himself from the men’s short program just minutes before he was supposed to skate, citing an injury.

WHAT BROKEN FOOT? Poland’s cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk powered through a foot fracture to win gold in the 10-kilometer classical-style race.

#TORAHBRIGHT: The snowboarding silvermedalist sparked an Instagram craze with fans showing off their dance moves.

TINA MAZE WINS THE GAME OF LIFE: When she’s not bringing home a gold medal, this ski champ from Slovenia is also a pop-star and a fashion model in her spare time.

PUPPY ADOPTION FOR ONE ATHLETE IN SOCHI: Gus Kenworthy might be taking home a pack of dogs to go along with his silver medal. The 22-year-old slope-style skier said he wants to adopt a family of stray puppies that he found in Sochi.

WAIT, IS THIS THE WINTER OR SPRING OLYMPICS?: The warm weather snap has made conditions more challenging for outdoor sporting events (bring on the snow-making machines). But the athletes, locals and many shirtless spectators seem to be enjoying the sunshine.
