Sarah Palin on Eric Cantor: ‘Status quo has got to go’

Updated

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said people are over-thinking House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s shocking loss this week in the Virginia GOP primary to represent the state’s 7th Congressional district.

“Those who are absolutely shocked that this could ever happen must not have their thumb on the pulse of what many Americans are thinking, and that is ‘the status quo has got to go,’” Palin said during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday.

Rep. Cantor resigned from his leadership less than 24 hours after his stunning loss in the Virginia GOP primary to tea party challenger David Brat on Tuesday night. He will hold his position until July 31.

Brat’s campaign was simple and in touch with the people who he will represent, Palin said. She added that leaders should be honest with the people about the state of the union, the ways debt could affect their children and grandchildren, and the results of these “blunders” of national security decisions.

“Those that are so shocked, they really underestimate the wisdom of the people,” said Palin, the failed 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate.
