Money is apparently pouring in to the Bernie Sanders campaign, which announced Wednesday that it had raised $5.2 million since the senator's victory in the New Hampshire Democratic primary. The campaign said its average donation was $34.

The Vermont senator handed a significant defeat to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Granite State on Tuesday. Sixty percent of voters in the Democratic primary cast ballots for him, while Clinton came in at a distant second place with 38 percent of the vote.

Sanders has decried what he calls a broken campaign finance system in which super PACs can contribute untold sums to politicians, and he has relied on small donations to fuel his campaign. The Vermont senator, however, has regularly attended high-dollar Democratic fundraising retreats, as MSNBC reported Tuesday.

The Sanders campaign said its recent haul broke its previous fundraising record for money raised in less than one day.

Sanders out-raised Clinton by $5 million in January, prompting the Clinton campaign to send fundraising emails with "out-raised and outspent" in the subject line.
