Sen. Roy Blunt is joining the list of senators set to vote against Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense.

“I will be voting no in the committee, and then assuming there’s a vote on the floor, I will be voting no on the floor,” The Missouri Republican told The Daily Rundown’s Chuck Todd Friday.

Blunt elaborated:

I want to give the president the benefit of the doubt in who he can bring to his cabinet with him, and who can join him in the cabinet. But in this job at this time, things like Senator Hagel’s comments on containment, I think he really does believe based on his statement yesterday even though he backed away from them later, that we could contain a nuclear Iran. I don’t think we could contain a nuclear Iran.

Hagel testified Thursday before the Senate Armed Services Committee. That panel and the full Senate could vote on Hagel as soon as next week.
