Romney’s proposed constitutional amendment would bar Ryan from presidency

Taking a swipe at President Obama back in May, Mitt Romney talked up the idea of a constitutional amendment that would say “the president has to spend three years working in business before he becomes president of the United States. Then he or she would understand that the policies they are putting into place have to encourage small business to grow.”

Now that he’s picked Paul Ryan as his running-mate, Romney might want to rethink that one. If such an amendment were passed, Ryan, a career politician, would be barred from the presidency.

Obviously, the fact that Ryan hasn’t worked in business shouldn’t disqualify him from the Oval Office. But that just shows how short-sighted Romney’s idea was.
