Mitt Romney is having trouble appealing to the Republican base. And Rachel Maddow thinks he may only have one way out: Picking Liz Cheney as his vice presidential candidate.

"I gotta say," Maddow said to Eugene Robinson on The Rachel Maddow Show, "if he does not lock up the Republican base, it doesn't matter that he wont get the independents either—he's going to lose fifty states instead of just losing forty-nine. I'm telling you, I see his only path out of the dilemma he's in right now is picking Liz Cheney."

Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney served as a State Department official in the Bush administration, and has since run an advocacy group arguing for a more hawkish foreign policy.
