First lady Michelle Obama just delivered a knockout response to a “Let’s Move” challenge delivered by President Barack Obama, who posted a YouTube video to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the first lady’s initiative.
On Tuesday night, Michelle Obama’s @FLOTUS Twitter account posted a video along with a cheeky reply to the president.
Michelle Obama, 51, performs a full-body workout that may explain how she keeps those fantastic arms. In addition to jumping rope, bench pressing 35-pound dumbbells and doing crunches with a medicine ball (a circuit comparable to that of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred), the first lady shows her mastery of the cross-jab and roundhouse kick.
Even though her technique looks pretty flawless, the entire workout video is done under the supervision of fitness trainer Cornell McClellan, who is a member of President Obama’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.
Together, McClellan and Michelle Obama managed to produce a one-two punch on social media, creating a lot of buzz over the first lady’s performance and workout music selection. Yes, Beyonce is on the list.
As of 3 p.m. ET Wednesday, the total number of video views (41,463) for #GimmeGive FLOTUS Style is more than 1.5 times that of President Obama’s challenge video, which currently has 25,654 views. And data from third-party analytics company vidIQ shows that Michelle Obama’s workout video has had more Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn shares than President Obama’s video..
So it looks like the first lady won this round.
This isn’t the first workout video appearance for Michelle Obama. In 2011, the first lady paid a surprise visit to students at Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, D.C., as part of her Let’s Move campaign. That, too, was posted on YouTube.
