Melania Trump: My husband 'treats women the same as men'

Melania Trump defended her husband against accusations of sexism in a one-on-one interview with Mika Brzezinski.

Melania Trump defended her husband against accusations of misogyny and insisted that he does not mistreat women in a sit-down interview with "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski that aired Wednesday on MSNBC.

When asked if there was a difference between how male and female employees were treated in the Trump Organization, she denied that her husband conducted himself with bias.

"They're treated equal," Trump said. "I see him in life.  He treats women the same as men."

Her husband has been accused of sexism throughout this election cycle by both Republicans and Democrats. This criticism gained traction following the first GOP debate, in which the business mogul took issue with a question posed by moderator Megyn Kelly, who asked whether his past insults of women he did not like reflected presidential temperament. The Republican front-runner later said of Kelly: “There was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” a comment some took as a disparaging reference to menstruation. The businessman also re-tweeted several posts that referred to Kelly as a "bimbo."

At the mention of Kelly, Melania Trump maintained that her husband did not have sexist intentions.

"He will tell you what is in his heart, what he thinks," she said. "He will not hold it back if you're a woman. You're a human. You're human.  You're not — it's a woman or a man. It's no difference. You are human."
